Words That Sell Logo_edited.png

Hello!

I'm Dr. James Key. It's nice to "meet" you!

And before you ask, yes, I really am a doctor! Just not the medical kind. (I can't tell you anything about that strange mole on your back. So please don't show me.)

I have an earned doctorate in rhetoric — the fine art of persuading people without actually lying (unlike your cousin Gary trying to sell you his timeshare). I have spent 20 years as a marketing executive, creative director, and technical writer.

I spin gold out of words and make them shine.

When not coaching college students in composition and rhetoric (and explaining that “rhetoric” isn't just what unscrupulous politicians do on TV), I work marketing magic — crafting emails that develop trust, build raving fans, and open wallets, turning “maybe later” into “shut up and take my money.”

Beyond the page and podium, I have helped entrepreneurs, speakers, and leaders craft and deliver signature stories that sell — stories that don’t just sound good, but close deals, make sales, and turn audiences into armies. (You can find out more about my story coaching on my Testimonials page.)

This year, I became the only copywriter trained and certified by world-renowned email copywriting juggernaut Ian Stanley — a man whose words have driven over $100 million in client sales. (And Ian doesn’t hand out certifications like Halloween candy; if you get the nod, you're the kind of writer other writers secretly Google at 2 am.)

With a brain wired for strategy, a heart primed for encouragement, and a background that practically majors in success, I don't just help you meet your goals — I help you out-charm, out-write, and outshine the competition.

Because when you combine a sharp wit, sharper skills, and a deep understanding of human motivation, success isn't just possible — it's inevitable (and a lot more fun).

So if you’re ready to stop contributing to the inbox apocalypse and start sending messages people look forward to (and maybe even enjoy), let’s talk.
